Preliminary Ecological Appraisals

Also known as “Initial Protected Species Surveys” or “Phase I Surveys”, this is usually the first stage of any Ecological Survey work and is normally requested by the Local Planning Authority prior to consideration of a planning application.

The survey involves a site visit to determine if any protected species or habitats are present within the development footprint or surrounding area, and assesses whether they will be impacted by the work proposed.

Based on the results of this appraisal, further surveys for protected species will be recommended if necessary.
